Die Kunst von Josef Lada hat seiner Zeit viele Menschen dank seiner Art begeistert. Er hat das Leben auf dem Land und in der Stadt, die Werte der Zeit, die Liebe zu Traditionen mit lieblichen Bildern und viel Humor auf seinen Bildern wiedergegeben. Wir haben die Chance genutzt seine Werke in das hier und jetzt zu holen. Damit meinen wir nicht nur, dass wir dank der Zusammenarbeit mit der Familie von Josef Lada, der Botschaft der Tschechischen Republik in Bern und dem Verband der tschechischen und slowakischen Vereine die Ausstellung umsetzen konnten. Sondern es entstand eine Verbindung zwischen der zeitgenössischen Kunst und Josefa Lada, also der Tschechischen Kunst des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts, Dank den Interpretationen Josefa Lada’s Arbeiten durch fünf junge Kunststudentinnen der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK).
CzechIN Mitglied Katerina Sedy war CO-Künstlerin und Kuratorin von diesem Teil der Ausstellung und sie hat die Künstlerinnen anhand ihrer Medien und ihrer Praxis zusammengestellt.
Die Künstlerinnen hatten sich mit Lada auseinandergesetzt und dann frei Werke ausgearbeitet. Es sind fünf Arbeiten entstanden. Ein Ölgemälde auf Holz, eine Skulptur aus Gips und Keramik, ein Aquarell, ein Druck und ein Druchdruck von Markern.
Umění Josefa Lady vždy oslovovalo mnoho lidí. Ve svých obrazech zobrazoval život na venkově i ve městě, hodnoty doby, lásku k tradicím a spoustu humoru. Využili jsme příležitosti přenést jeho díla do současnosti. Tím máme na mysli nejen to, že jsme výstavu mohli uskutečnit díky spolupráci s rodinou Josefa Lady, Velvyslanectvím České republiky v Bernu a Svazem českých a slovenských spolků. Ale také spojení současného umění s Josefem Ladou, tedy českým uměním 20. století, díky interpretaci děl Josefa Lady pěti mladými studenty Vysoké školy umění v Curychu (ZHdK).
Členka CzechIN Katerina Sedy byla spoluautorkou a kurátorkou této části výstavy a umělce sestavila na základě jejich médií a praxe. Umělci prozkoumali Ladu a poté volně vytvořili díla.
Vzniklo pět děl. Olejomalba na dřevě, socha v sádře a keramice, akvarel, tisk a tisk z fixů.
The art of Josef Lada has always pleased many people. He has reflected the life in the countryside and in the city, the values of the time, the love for traditions with lovely pictures and a lot of humor in his paintings. We have taken the opportunity to bring his works into the here and now. By this we mean not only that we were able to realize the exhibition thanks to the cooperation with the family of Josef Lada, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bern and the Union of Czech and Slovak Associations. But also the connection between contemporary art and Josef Lada, i.e. Czech art of the twentieth century, thanks to the interpretation of Josef Lada’s works by five young art students of the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK).
CzechIN member Katerina Sedy was CO artist and curator of this part of the exhibition, and she assembled the artists based on their media and practice. The artists had studied Lada and then freely elaborated works.
Five works emerged. An oil painting on wood, a sculpture in plaster and ceramic, a watercolor, a print and a print of markers.
Manuela Cossalter

Glasierte Keramik und Gips
Manuela Cossalter (1990) absolvierte 2017 den Bachelor of Arts an der Schule für Gestaltung und Kunst, FHNW in Basel. Angefangen hat sie als Malerin, doch nach der Entdeckung von Glasuren und dem plastischen Modellieren blieb sie beim Hauptmedium Keramik. Ihre Keramikwerke kombinieren zudem andere Materialien wie Moos, Baumäste, PU Schaum, Gips und Textilien. Die Werke variieren von klei- neren Objekten zu grösseren Installationen.
Eine Erweiterung der dreidimensionalen Praxis besteht aus ständigem zeichnen/skizzieren. Meistens wird ohne jede Erwartung gezeichnet (automatisches zeichnen). Die Wesen und Szenarien die aus den schnellen Zeichnungen entstehen werden oft ins dreidimensionale transformiert.
Ein spielerischer, lockerer Prozess und das Vertrauen in Intuition und Imagination sind im Arbeitsprozess von M.Cossalter stark gewichtet.
Ein Kernthema ihrer Kunst sind Mischwesen aus diversen Mythologien oder aus der heutigen Wissenschaft. Zur Zeit absolviert sie den Master in Fine Arts an der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste.

Victoria painted over a print of the picture „Hospodská rvačka“ with markers and then reprinted it on white paper. The word Kocovina means hangover.
Valentin Rilliet

Valentin Rilliet’s artistic practice discloses an ongoing dialogue between the personal and the political, embodied by a recollection of memories and personal archives. Popular references, symbolic potentiality and anthropomorphism heavily rotate around the subjects of the work, as a way to personify an innocuous event in time or an emotional state. Driven by his dual-heritage and the idea of appropriation, he likes to investigate how art has been used as a tool of persuasion and self-questioning through history, consequently acting as a simulacra for image-making.
For this exhibition, Valentin attempted to faithfully recreate Josef Lada’s universe and aesthetic through the depiction of two modest figures (colour choices, stylisation and traditional clothing). With his own interpretation of Lada’s illustration and stories, he initially sought to explore a new way of painting figuratively, playing around with a different approach and method. But more importantly, he wished to emphasise the brilliance of what the Czech artist had brought into the art world nowadays, as well as sharing his creations with the audience through this unorthodox collaboration.
Valentin is a young artist born in Geneva (1996, Switzerland) from a Swiss father and a Chinese mother. He recently graduated with a Bachelor degree in Fine Arts at the Slade School of Art (UK) in 2020 and has now started studying his MA in Fine Arts at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, in Zürich.
Richard Blaško

Richard Blaško is an emerging visual artist based in Zurich. His work branches across various mediums, from painting to sculpture, installation and digital work. Richard’s work reflects on contemporary life of youth and raises questions around sustainability, politics, religion and explores life of a digital native in Anthropocene.

Titel: Ein Nachmittag am See
Die typische Idylle auf Lada’s Bildern, wo man sieht wie Menschen verschiedenen Tätigkeiten nachgehen waren nebst dem Stil mit den schwarzen Aussenlinie der Ausgangspunkt für meine Interpretation. Das Bild zeigt die Wiese im Glattpark. Es sind reale Menschen die ich irgendwann fotografiert habe, vor allem Menschen ich die persönlich kenne und liebe. Das Bild Zeit die heutige Zeit, die jetzige Architektur und auch das was nicht ist.
